It’s May…
Dear Readers,
Where did May go? Seriously. What happened? I know last month I was running on nothing but brown sugar shaken espresso and vibes, but dang. I’d better give you all the news pronto before June shows up.
First and foremost, I’m trying a slightly different format for this newsletter. We shall see how it goes. It could be like one of my father’s patented two-in-one situations: first and last all rolled up into one. First, some exciting news…
Nobody’s Perfect is a nominee for the 2025 Georgia Author of the Year Awards!
There are a LOT of familiar names on the nominee list this year, both in romance and in other categories. It’s also my youngest child’s birthday, so we shall see if I will be able to attend the ceremony or not. You can click on the photo to see a list of nominees. Bonne chance, everyone!
Speaking of last month, I turned in book 8, working title Little Miss Petty, and I will be back on that brown sugar shaken espresso train for the rest of the summer as I complete edits. At this rate, I’ll have to dedicate the book to Sabrina Carpenter.
At long last, Beulah Land’s story is going to be an audiobook.
In fact, allllll of my Ellery books except Bless Her Heart and Oh My Stars are headed to audio. With a little bit of luck, we’ll get those last two Ellery books in the fold, too. (I did get the rights back to those, so new covers are coming by the end of the year. Lord willin’)
Should your ears be itching for a Sally Kilpatrick story, Nobody’s Perfect is available on audio as is my novella, Snowbound in Vegas.
.
Would you like to come see me? Or to take a class? I have events. Yes, I have determined to leave my house on multiple occasions this year. Even better for you, I plan to offer a free novella with purchase—stay tuned for more details on the “how” and the “which one.” In the meantime, save the date for the following events:

7/26 Signinig: The Reading Attic
8/23 Book Club Discussion: Birch Tree Book Club
9/20 Workshop + Signing: Read It Again Books
Find out the details about alllll of my events here.
You can also browse through the event page to find several different online workshops should that tickle your fancy. You’ll find everything from Revision to Humor to The Nice Girl’s Guide to Conflict here.
What I’ve been reading:
Sisters in Arms by Kaia Anderson — A novel based on the true story of the 6888, a Black WAC unit that helped sort mail during WWII. It’s mainly a story of Grace and Eliza, two women who are living through that turbulent time of history.
A Wager at Midnight by Vanessa Riley — A Regency romance that includes one of my favorite things ever: a woman who dresses as a man to do what she wants to do, which in this case is to be a doctor. Scarlett Wilcox is simply a lot of fun, and she gets the best of Dr. Stephen Carew on the regular. Bonus? He’s reading Sense and Sensibility.
One Sharp Stitch by Allie Pleiter — A new cozy mystery set in a needlecraft shop. Come for the quirky characters, stay for the mystery.
What I’ve been watching:
Streaming: Black Bag It’s kinda like Mr. and Mrs. Smith but with Michael Fasbender and Cate Blanchett. It’s fast-paced, clever, and blessedly short.
Theater: Sinners Wondering if it lives up to the hype? Yes. Yes, it does. Sure, it looks like a simple vampire movie on the surface, but I don’t think Ryan Coogler is physically capable of simple. It’s a multi-layered story with plenty to tell us about the past and today. Also two Michael B Jordans for the price of one.
Theater: Thunderbolts/New Avengers It’s your typical action/comic book/popcorn movie, but it also has humor and heart. Flo Pugh is awesome. There’s a reason why some folks are calling it The Mental Health Avengers.
Streaming: One of Them Days Ryan Coogler says this is his favorite movie of the year, and I find that fascinating since it’s the opposite of Sinners. This is a buddy movie comedy full of shenanigans.
Theater: Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning Another popcorn movie that will be especially satisfying if you have enjoyed the other offerings from he Mission: Impossible series. Come for Tom Cruise doing insane practical stunts, stay for the found family full of lovable rogues.
And that’s all the news that is news for the month of May. Except for what I’ve forgotten. Because I have forgotten something. My mind is a feral possum rave this week. Do stay tuned because there just may be some Mom Scout Badges headed your way in the next couple of months…
Please let me know what you think of this new newsletter format. Got any books I should add to my TBR? Any movies I should add? Should I scrap that section of my newsletter altogether? Inquiring minds want to know.
As always, thank you. Thank you for reading all the way to the bottom of my newsletter. Thanks for reading my books and for telling your friends. This is a tough business, but readers like you make it all worth it.
XOXO
That time I went to the pig races and took a copy of Nobody’s Perfect with me. For reasons….
